Many have asked my why we aerify late in the season. This picture is a perfect example. The holes that stayed open all winter allowed water to be channel off of the green surface. The more water we remove from the surface the less chance of ice build up. We won't have a definite answer on how we made it through winter for a few weeks yet. I will let everyone know how we fared.
It has been a long winter for us at the course. We have been working inside for the past few months and cabin fever has set in. We were excited to get out side and start removing snow from greens this weekend. We were able to use 2 big snow throwers to complete this process. These two machines reduced the time to complete this process from 1 week to 1 day. The good news is that so far the greens look great. There are no signs of damage from winter and no major ice. We are hoping that winter is over and spring is on its way. The first project to be completed is finishing the sod on the tees. This will completed as soon as the snow melts. We are looking forward to a banner season this year. I think with the help of the membership it will be an amazing 2015. |
